Dental Implants
If you have missing teeth, you have several options to replace them. One is to use traditional dentures, which are cheaper and easier than dental implants, but dentures do not solve the problem of underlying jaw decay. Once a tooth is missing, your jawbone atrophies because it no longer has to support the tooth, leading to a softening jawline and decreased oral function. This problem is solved with dental implants, which are artificial teeth permanently implanted in your gums and jawbone.

The dental implant procedure can take several months, but the end result is a fully functional tooth. First, the jawbone must be stabilized. If it is no longer strong enough to support a tooth, a bone graft may be necessary. Then an abutment, or metal post, is implanted into the jawbone and gums. Finally, the crown, or visible tooth, is attached to the end of the abutment. The shape and color of the crown are customized to match your remaining teeth. As long as you take proper care of your dental implant, it can last for the rest of your life.
